'Invince' pulled into Egypt and us marines drew straws to see who stayed behind with their pistols to protect the ship - I went to Cairo with some of the boys and rode camels up to the Great Pyramids ..
Recovering from addiction I 'accidentally' spotted a newspaper ad recruiting volunteers to work in Africa - so I did the firewalk to raise my education fees and flew to Mozambique after 3 amazing days in Johannesburg ...
Years later me and my girl holidayed in Tunisia - not so much an accident! I fell in love with harrissa ...
Then a fan offered to pay for me and him to complete the legendary Marathon des Sables across the Sahara Desert together - then he buggered off leaving me with a £7k bill and an opportunity I couldnt say no to ...!
That's FIVE times I could have taken the easy option - but instead ended up in beautiful incredible AFRICA ...
